Error Correction
-Naval Ravikant
In a recent podcast, I heard Naval Ravikant talk about “error correction” when dealing with things he has said in the past. I thought, this is a brilliant approach! I also thought of my newsletter where I talked about off-season training on my dirt bike this past winter. Which I never did, not even once. Life brought me other opportunities, that were higher on the priority list. Or the newsletter where I thought doing an oil change on the truck before the upcoming track day was the most important priority. Then, life hit me with something even more important; out of the blue.

In that “The Off-Season” newsletter I also talked about installing the spare engine into the RC51 for this past winter. What the RC51 actually needed was written about in three other newsletters “Bananas in the oil”, “Making a RC51 live up to Honda's reputation” and “She's Alive, Alive!” The end result was still the same; to have the RC51 ready for the 2025 track day season. However, the route took a different turn.
Maybe my words are just estimates at that point in time when I type them. With Naval’s error correction we are just getting closer to the truth. We all believed in Santa at one point. Then we realized there’s no way that fat man could fit down the chimney. That our parents were sneaking out at night to put presents under the Christmas tree and eat the treats we left out for Santa.
But we still have to type or say the words, to have any chance in getting closer to the truth. We have to do it even though we know it may not be as accurate as we’d like.
Error correction is also what we continually do on the race track. In the beginning the errors are massive and as we refine our skills the errors get smaller. As long as we are ever-refining our skills; life and the race track will never get boring.
I’ll leave you with one of my favorite Jordan Peterson Instagram posts.
