The Off-Season
It’s the end of the track riding season for me. And it’s usually the time where I start thinking how I’m going to be left behind in rider development as the folks who live or travel to warmer parts of the earth to keep riding on the race track. No wasting track time for them in the spring getting up to speed, because they’re fresh. I will have to say that, I got up to speed a lot quicker at the beginning of this season, than years in the past.
Some people do flat track, although a great training environment, it seems a little outdated for the current riding style of road racing. Where, we rely so much on the front brakes to get the bike turned. But who am I to say such a thing, I’ve never flat tracked a bike. What I’m getting at is, I have an excellent off-season training tool, where they also rely heavily on the front brake. So no more boo-hoo’ing for me.
The drive distance is the same as going to The Ridge. Grip levels are a lot less, which is a great teacher. Lot of leg muscles are required; to keep my legs in shape. Tense arms are frowned upon. They do want you to weight the outside in cornering which is ass backwards compared to road racing, but I’ll quickly figure it out.

Plus, I like the forced break from track riding, it gives me time to do some wrenching projects. I have an RC51 that needs another engine, and I happen to have one in the garage. Also, time away from the track makes you long for it. It’s going to be a good winter!
