Some Follow-Ups

Oil, Jenny & Uncommon Track Day Bikes

Valvoline’s Restore and Protect- You might remember me being excited to try Valvoline’s Restore and Protect. A miracle oil that revolutionizes the oil industry, or just another snake oil? We are about to see. Restore and Protect is supposed to clean slowly so that it does not clog up oil passages, filters and your catalytic converters. Plus, I know Lake Speed Jr. wouldn’t recommend the product to me if he knew there could be some harmful side effects. Of the Youtube videos I’ve watched, most were pleased and/or amazed with the product. A few guys are claiming it clogged up their oil filter quickly; even though their vehicles were well maintained its whole life. When I bought the Restore and Protect I also bought four oil filters, so I could check. At 400 miles since pouring the product into my engine, I was starting to get paranoid. Is my oil pressure gauge reading a little lower than normal? So I removed the oil filter and cut it open. It looks brand new! The filtering paper still has its yellowish-white color. Bullshit, Bullshit, Bullshit on those Youtubers claiming their vehicles were well maintained its whole life. But at the same time, awesome! Now I know the product is living up to its claim for cleaning slowly. And I have two more oil filters for the next two oil changes. You may say, “Come-on Scott, you can’t believe everything you see on the internet”. Very true! But who would you rather be, the guy with engine problems and a clogged oil filter, or the guy who confirmed everything is good to go?

Generator- I got my generator fixed! When it wasn’t working, the carburetor still adds fuel when you are pulling the manual starter or pushing the electric start button numerous times trying to get it to start. I know that there has to be lots of fuel sitting in that oil. Because of Fuel Dilution, I turned it off shortly after getting it running again and drained the oil. Cold oil doesn’t drain as well, so I performed a double flush. I poured in new oil and ran it for about 20 minutes to get the oil hot so it would drain fully. Followed by pouring in new oil (again), for the second time. It took both the display and the spark control module to get it running. Since they are both connected by electronically (wires) and the display started intermittently working first. I think the malfunctioning display caused the spark control module to go bad. The display is my fault, not Generac. It was raining at a track day so I lowered my tailgate and put my generator under it. When it stopped raining I lifted the tailgate and all the collected water splash onto the control panel, soaking the display. LOL, oops.

2023 Suzuki Hayabusa in Grey and Red

This is not a follow up to anything I’ve written about, it’s just a fantasy. I have this desire to ride (and maybe own) some uncommon bikes on the track. A third Generation Suzuki Hayabusa, Grey and Red please. An Indian FTR1200, the Super Hooligan race replica and a Kawasaki H2R. I have never seen any of these bikes at a track day. I know I would still get passed by some super-natural on a Ninja 400. And I also know because of the weight, and forces those bikes apply, it would be a point and shoot riding style only. But it would still be a blast.

Indian’s FTR1200, the Super Hooligans edition. What a good looking bike, the Red frame and wheels, accented with Gold and Black. And those pipes!

When is Kawasaki going to return back to designing good looking bikes again? This thing is ugly, just like the rest of their lineup. This trend started in the late 2000’s.

What is an uncommon bike you would like to ride on the track?
