Loose Arms and Slow Hands

Today (yesterday for you guys), Sunday September 1st: Loose arms and slow hands was the focus while riding the Kawasaki (600cc). I am riding the Kawasaki for today and tomorrow because Robertino Pietri said, you learn a lot by riding a small bike, on a big bike, it is easy to become lazy. And I will treat myself with riding the R1 (1,000cc) on the third day. The loose arms has to do with, are you a thinker or a feeler? You can’t have loose arms without a good foundation. I don’t have a problem with my inside foot. But its my outside leg and foot that needs work. I could relax my arms even more, if I had a better foundation with my outside leg and foot was locked between the hump in the gas tank and the footpeg. Part of this problem probably comes from a technique that I took too far, long ago. Which was, you should be able to take your outside foot off the peg in a turn. I think the point here, was to get people to put weight on the inside peg, but just because you could take your outside foot off the peg doesn’t mean that foot and leg combo shouldn’t be doing nothing. That’s what I’ve fallen into.

The morning sessions were spent deliberately finding a position that locks in my outside leg. Which was flexing my heel, which would drive my knee into the hump on the gas tank. I thought I was starting to ride pretty well.

I pulled out the lap timer for the Kawasaki after lunch. Bad idea. A two-O-eight something (2:08._). That’s the same as my best from 2021. It’s now three years later with a lot of time and money spent on getting instruction from some of the best. I feel that I am riding better than I was three years ago, however I am still riding a 2:08 at The Ridge.

Two things: One, I am working on a new technique so it’s going to soak up some brain space. Two, while doing this I am still riding consistently at my old record.

And three, the battery on my laptop is about to die…
