The Year of Endurance

Not three lap qualifiers.

When this newsletter comes out, I will already have had my first track day of the year and working on my second. If this reaches your inbox at 05:00 like it’s set to, my alarm clock is sounding off. And I’m thinking, “I need to get my ass outta bed”, so I can get one of three showers available at The Ridge Motorsports Park. There’s not many earlier risers at The Ridge, at least racing to the showers. However, I can count on a couple. Depending on their attendance, both named Mark. Mark DeGross and Mark Price. There’s a couple of reasons why I like to get up early in the morning on a track day. One, I like to take my sweet ass time taking a shower. It’s early in the morning and there’s no line for the showers yet. And two, I like waking up slowly before registration call at 07:00.

I have three track day goals this year, which doesn’t include what I’m working on:

Number one, the higher the intensity, the lower the duration. I need to find an intensity that allows me to ride the whole session, every session. 70 laps per day is an end of season goal. That is averaging a two minute lap time for the whole day. I can’t maintain that intensity at the beginning of the season. Which is why I signed up for the Relaxed Group (slow group) for the first track day of the year to set a baseline pace. The last part of number one (small font), is a motto I created from other quotes and bad advice.

Number two, well… I wrote a whole newsletter on this, just like I did for number one. The small font is something I heard James Hetfield talk about in an interview.

Number three. If taken the wrong way, this would appear rude. But it’s not. There is plenty of time for both throughout a track day. Providing service to others can happen before the track day, in between sessions and/or after the track day. The best part would be to incorporate two into one.
